Without firing a shot, Navajos on this date in 1875 seized the Agency at Fort Defiance in protest over inaction by the Commissioner to remove their agent, W.F.M. Arny, whom they had twice petitioned to be removed. They also threatened to kill Arny should he return to the fort from Washington, D.C. Arny resigned on the 25th of August, 1875.
